A discussion on the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board safety reports covers recommendations to the U.S. Coast Guard, including increased monitoring of vessels carrying/transferring liquefied gases in or near the Port of New Orleans and review of the ''Voluntary Traffic Control Agreement of the Maritime Industry of the Sabine Waterways'' to prevent collisions similar to those involving the ''Inca Tupac Yupanqui'' and the butane barge Panama City in Good Hope, LA, on 8/30/79, the Sea Witch and Esso Brussels in New York Harbor on 6/2/73, and the Mobil Vigilant and Marine Duval, which were carrying 41,198 and 23,866 tons of crude oil and molten sulfur, respectively, near Beaumont, Texas, on 2/25/79; responses by the American Gas Association and the U.S. Department of Transporation on the adequacy of the orginal burial depths of pipelines (Abstract No. 27-51219) and on compliance with hazardous materials regulations, respectively; and other safety recommendations to, and responses by, railroad, aircraft, highway, and federal agencies.
