The American Mining Congress, founded in 1847, sees the need for a fundamental change in the relationship between the government and industry to eliminate many of the constraints that lowered efficiency and increased US dependence on foreign minerals - and feels confrontation should be replaced with cooperation. This policy statement covers the availability of mineral deposits and lands for exploration; supports land use and energy policies that will increase US self-sufficiency in minerals and energy; endorses an environmental policy that recognizes the need for energy and mineral development and which coordinates state and federal regulations on safety and health; and endorses tax incentives and regulatory reform.
