Faraday effect in n-Hg/sub 1-x/ Cd/sub x/ Te (0. 19 x 0. 26)

Measurements of Faraday rotation (FR) on free carriers are used to determine the value of the effective mass of carriers. The purpose of this paper is to determine some band parameters from an investigation of FR in intrinsic Hg/sub 1-x/ Cd/sub x/ Te crystals (x = 0.19 - 0.26) and also to study the possibility of using FR to determine concentration profiles of free carriers of doped crystals and the composition of the studied crystals with intrinsic conductivity. The paper also considers the possibility of using radiation from a CO/sub 2/ laser to determine the concentration profile of free carriers in doped Hg/sub 1-x/ Cd/sub x/ Te crystals.
