On the basis of electric conductivity, Hall effect, and Faraday effect for free charge carriers, and dependence on the geometrical dimensions of Cd/sub x/Hg/sub 1-x/Te samples for 0.19 less than or equal to x less than or equal to 0.30, a determination has been made of the electrical properties and effective electron mass. An experimental determination has been obtained of the distribution shape for x and its amplitude fluctuation ..delta..x as a function of sample thickness. A contactless method has been demonstrated for measuring composition fluctuations in these crystals.
