Each year the January-February issue of Public Power includes the annual directory of publicly owned electric utilities. Most public power systems listed in this directory are municipally owned; however, the listing also includes public utility districts, irrigation districts that supply electricity to retail customers, state power agencies (joint action agencies are listed separately) and county-owned power systems. The listing does not include private power companies or most electric cooperatives. Co-ops that are members of the American Public Power Association are listed separately. The listing also excludes cities that own a generating facility but sell their output to an electric utility. The directory lists by state the utility, the number of customers, KWh generated, purchased, and sold, and revenues.
