Salt melts of the NaCl-KCl-UCl/sub 3/ system may be used as electrolytes in production and refining of metallic uranium. The phase diagram of this system has a relatively simple primary-crystallization surface and regions of compositions with low melting points of the mixtures at fairly high uranium trichloride concentrations. The relatively wide ranges of density and viscosity of melts of this system allow selection of compositions having the most suitable properties. In this paper the authors report the results of a study of the influence of temperature and concentration on the velocity of ultrasound and adiabatic compressibility of melts of the NaCl-KCl-UCl/sub 3/ system.
