This system can be represented as a triangular concentration diagram with five crystallization fields: LiCl, KCl, K/sub 2/UCl/sub 6/, UCl/sub and Li/ sub 2/UCl/sub 6/. The greatest part of the concentration triangle belongs to LiCl, KCl, and UCl/sub 4/ section, a significant pant of whose area is occupied by the compound K/sub 2/UCl/sub 6/. All secondary ternary systems are simple eutectics. The LiCl-KCl-K/sub 2/UCl/sub 6/ crystallization field reduces to a ternary eutectic at 335 deg C with a composition of 29.7 mol% LiCl, 55.6 mol% KCl, and 14.7 mol% UCl/sub 4/. Another ternary eutectic was found at 250 deg C with a composition of 26.9 mol% LiCl, 34.1 mol% KCl, and 39.0 mo1% UCl/sub 4/. The Li/sub 2/UCl/sub 6/y eutectic at 260 deg C with a composition of 26.0 mol% LiCl, 32.9 mol% KCl, and 41.1 mol% UCl/sub 4/. These low-melting eutectics can be used in the refining of uranium. (SJR)
