Record bauxite frac ups gas flow four-fold
Using 10 pressure multipliers, 280,000 gal fracturing fluid carrying 465,000 lb sintered bauxite opened a calculated 1200-ft fracture in an E. Texas (Upshur County) Cotton Valley lime formation. This largest bauxite treatment in E. Texas resulted in a 4-fold increase in gas flow. The Parrish No. 1 well in the Delrose field is operated by Texas Oil and Gas Corp. The treatment in the low permeability limestone at a depth of more than 2 miles was done by Dowell. Although sintered bauxite is considerably more expensive than sand, it is a much stronger proppant. Proppant crushing has been suspected in other Cotton Valley gas wells. Here and elsewhere, closure pressure increased as the producing pressure declines. Before fracturing, the well flowed 560 MCFD, with FTP (flowing tubing pressure) of 1495 psi. It also produced 3 bpd condensate and 2 bpd water. The well's peak rate of production was on February 3, 10 days after fracturing. That flow was 4.15 MMCFD, with ftp of 2700 psi; 61 bpd condensate and 110 bpd water. Two and a half months after the treatment, the well stabilized at a flow of 2.5 MMCFD, with ftp of 710 psi, 28 bpd condensate and 13 bpd water.
