The Arctic Pilot Project to transport 7 million cu m/day of gas from Melville Island in the Canadian Arctic to markets in eastern Canada is feasible and will have a capital cost of about $1 billion, according to a two-year study by Petro-Canada, Alberta Gas Trunk Line Co. Ltd., and Melville Shipping Ltd. The proposed Melville Island facilities, the 95 mile, 22 inch diameter buried chilled gas transmission line, the Bridport Shipping terminal, LNG facilities, LNG vessels and regasification terminals are described; environmental and LNG safety considerations are noted briefly; and estimated costs of some of the facilities are given.
