The Arctic Pilot project of Petro-Canada, Alberta Gas Trunk Line Co., Ltd., and Melville Shipping Ltd. will demonstrate that a combined pipeline-tanker system is economical for delivering natural gas to North American east coast markets. Because of improved process technology, very low ambient design temperatures for heat rejection, and the use of aviation-type gas turbines, the plant is expected to have a shrinkage factor of only 6%, making it the most efficient baseload LNG plant in the world.
