13 Pennsylvania users ask FERC to renew direct gas buy

The request of the Champion Valley Farms Group, 13 eastern Pennsylvania gas users, for approval to renew an arrangement of direct gas purchase may have difficulty because of the rapidly changing and conflicting directives facing the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). The users prefer the cheaper direct-purchase arrangement with a two-year supply contract to the interruptible contracts available from local suppliers. FERC policies have discouraged direct purchases and the use of gas for boiler fuel, but the group has high priority and was among the users encouraged to buy directly from interstate pipelines two years ago. Further confusing the issue are recent directives encouraging the use of gas rather than imported oil as a boiler fuel.
