Closed-cell polyurethane foam insulates North Slope pipelines

Installations in Alaska's Prudhoe Bay field are proving the economy and efficiency of closed-cell polyurethane foam as an insulation for field gathering lines. BP Alaska Inc. has given General Electric Co. the contract for pipeline-insulation work on 40 route miles of 6-in. flow lines between the wells and the gathering centers, and 20 route miles of 24 to 38 in. oil and gas transit lines connecting gathering centers, the Alyeska pipeline pump station, and the central gas compression plant.
