The relativistic dynamics on the light front is applied to an analysis of the electromagnetic form factor of the deuteron at large q/sup 2/. We discuss the constraints on the matrix elements of the current operator of a composite system, which are imposed by the angular condition. We show that a scheme which is based on taking into account only the relativistic two-nucleon component does not describe the structure function of the deuteron for q/sup 2/>1 (GeV/c)/sup 2/. Considerations which are based on the model of quark bags allow one to describe A(q/sup 2/) in this region with the use of the parametrization A(q/sup 2//sub perpendicular/)approx.q/sub perpendicular/exp(-q/sub perpendicular//k/sub 0/), which is interpreted as the contribution of an admixture of a six-quark bag in the deuteron.
