Practical techniques for longwall dust suppression

The second part of this paper is concerned with work reported at a recent US Longwall Health and Safety Conference. The use of venturi sprays for longwall dust control is examined. Research carried out by Bituminous Coal Research at three mines is outlined. This involved a study of the effects of shearer drum design, quantity of sprayed water, use of wetting agent, and shearer cutting sequence on dust production underground.
