Interference of identical particles in p-barp interactions at 22. 4 GeV/c

Material obtained with the ''Lyudmila'' apparatus is used to study interference effects in pairs of identical pions in p-barp interactions at 22.4 GeV/c with multiplicity N> or =6. The effect was observed both on the ..delta delta.. diagram and in the spectrum of the effective masses M/sub pipi/ of the pion pairs. The average dimension and the lifetime of the pion production region, =3.0 +- 0.5 F and =3.1 +- 1.6 F/c are determined within the framework of the analysis of the one-dimensional projections of the ..delta delta.. diagram. The measured ratio of the transverse and longitudinal dimensions (R/sub perpendicular/=1.7 +- 0.4 F, R/sub parallel/=4.4 +- 1.4 F) is explained within the framework of the moving-source model.
