Potential for hydroelectric development in Alaska. Hearing before the Subcommittee on Water and Power of the Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, United States Senate, Ninety-Seventh Congress

Book ·
OSTI ID:6248677
This hearing, held in Anchorage, Alaska, took testimony on the state's potential for hydroelectric development and related regulations. It was prompted by the 10 to 12 cents per kilowatthour that Alaskans pay for electric power. Ninety-eight sites were identified that could produce over 34,000 megawatts, but high costs have prevented their development. Other constraints include technical problems and cumbersome regulations. The testimony of seven witnesses speaks to these problems and how Federal and state agencies can cooperate to this end. A resolution of the regulatory problem will help guide development plans in other states. (DCK)
