Improving the high-temperature oxidation resistance of nickel and its alloys by galvanodiffusive impregnation with lanthanum and neodymium from fused salts

In this article, the authors study how galvanodiffusive saturation with lanthanum or neodymium influences the high-temperature oxidation resistance of nickel and nichrome. A convenient electrolyte was used which contained chlorides of the rare earth and barium and fluorides of potassium and calcium. Results show that surface alloying with rare-earth metals is more promising than bulk alloying, since it can reduce the metal consumption of structures and components of scarce nickel alloys and can increase the effective working temperature.
