Atlantic coast oil and gas development. Panel II: comments, questions, and answers

Journal Article · · Nat. Resour. Lawyer; (United States)
OSTI ID:6238811
Panel members respond to questions from the audience on the development of gas and oil at offshore Atlantic Coast sites. New environmental policies of the Department of the Interior (DOI) are clarified and the question of whether U.S. industry could follow the example of British industry's close cooperation with local people is raised. Interest is also shown in whether exploring companies can conceal information prior to bidding for a lease, but a member of the audience points out that exploration in the Baltimore Canyon was a group effort of several companies and the DOI, the information being available to all participants and the state of New Jersey. Environmental legislation is pending on the timing for environmental impact statements during the planning stage of development and production. Recent laws taxing energy shipped to another state are declared unfair by New Jersey's Governor.
