European offshore conference in London: a review of the prospects for the 1980's

Conference · · Pet. Inf.; (United States)
OSTI ID:6229799
The financial Times has sponsored the second European offshore conference in London, with discussions devoted to government policies in the UK and in Norway, future prospects for offshore industry activities and technology, and markets for North Sea oil and gas. Licenses will continue to be available in the British sector to all comers, regardless of nationality. The two roles of BNOC, exploration and producing vs. trading, will be kept separate. In Norway, however, Statoil will play a key central role. Norway will impose heavier taxes than in the past. Discovery of a few more giant fields and construction of a new trunk pipeline also were discussed. Norway estimates that the North Sea oil reserves are perhaps as high as 40 billion bbl. Conventional recovery methods by gas and water injection are forecast for the larger fields, and only some smaller and marginal ones will see enhanced recovery methods applied.
