The lack of activity in the offshore drilling in 1980 is seen as the calm before the storm. The reluctance of many British companies to accelerate offshore development is being dispelled by successes of some companies and the rising price of oil. Also, the current and developing tax situation in UK is poorly defined as it relates to offshore drilling operations. However, it is projected that the modest North Sea total of 25 operational trees could be boosted to near 100 by the mid 1980's. Future plans for development of the North Sea by Occidental, Texaco, BNOC, Phillips, Shell, and Mobil are surveyed. (BLM)
