Cross sections have been measured for the reactions /sup 58,60/Ni(e,e'p) and /sup 58,60/Ni(e,e'..cap alpha..) in the electron-energy range 12--35 MeV. For analysis of the experimental results we used virtual photon spectra calculated in the DWBA. At energies E..gamma.. = 16.0 +- 1.0 MeV for /sup 58/Ni and E/sub ..gamma../ = 15.6 +- 1.0 MeV for /sup 60/Ni we have observed giant electric-quadrupole resonances which decay mainly by ..cap alpha..-particle emission. The integrated cross sections for the reactions /sup 58/Ni(..gamma..,..cap alpha..) and /sup 60/Ni(..gamma..,..cap alpha..) due to E2 transitions are respectively 5.4 +- 1.4 and 6.0 +- 3.0 mbxMeV, which amounts to 47 +- 12% of the total strength of isoscalar E2 transitions for /sup 58/Ni and 56 +- 28% for /sup 60/Ni. The integrated cross sections for these same reactions due to E1 transitions are 15.9 +- 2.3 and 16.9 +- 4.8 mbxMeV, which amount to 1.7 +- 0.3% of the value given by the sum rule for electric-dipole transitions for /sup 58/Ni and 1.8 +- 0.5% for /sup 60/Ni. The measured integrated cross sections for the reactions /sup 58,60/Ni(..gamma..,p) are 539 +- 33 and 300 +- 20 mbx MeV.
