Alpha decay of giant resonances in Ni/sup 58/ nuclei

Cross sections have been measured for Ni/sup 58/(e,e'p) and Ni/sup 58/(e,e'..cap alpha..) reactions. Virtual photon spectra calculated in the distorted wave Born approximation have been used to analyze the experimental results. An electric quadrupole (E2) giant resonance has been found which decays principally by the emission of ..cap alpha..-particles.
