INELASTIC PROTON SCATTERING ON Ni AND Cu AT 6.6 Mev (in Russian)

BS>A detailed analysis of inelastic proton scattering on Ni/sup 58,60/ and Cu/sup 63,65/ at E/sup p/ = 6.6 Mev was made in order to determine the mechanism of the reaction, Previous experiments indicated smooth cross section changes in elastic proton scattering on Cu/sup 63,65/ that were well described by an optical model. The latter did not hold true for Ni/sup 58,60/ and indicated the probability of a compound nucleus process. However, the data on (p,p' gamma ) correlations in Ni/sup 58/ and Ni/sup 60/ at E/sub p/ = 6.9 Mev exhibited a direct process in Ni/sup 60/ but that was absent in Ni/sup 58/. The total cross sections for Cu/sup 63/ and Cu/sup 65/ at E/sub p/ = 6.6 Mev are approximates 600 b. The sums of partial cross sections are 230 plus or minus 20 mb for Ni/ sup 58/ and 250 plus or minus 30 mb for Ni/sup 60/ at 3.5 Mev. In the case of proton reaction with Ni/sup 58/ and Ni/sup 60/ at E/sub p/ = 6,6 Mev the cross sections for p-p processes through compound nucleus formation are approximates 300 to 350 mb. Thus, the results support the postulation on anomalous elastic proton scattering on Ni/sup 58/ and Ni/sup 60/ that the increased elastic cross sections at large scattering angles are produced by larger contributions from p-p processes evolving compound nucleus states.
