The three hearings relating to Clean Air Act research focused on the status and directions of research programs, issues of health effects of precombustion technology, and the issues of acid rain, indoor air pollution, and pollution from synthetic-fuels technology. A report by the National Commission on Air Quality was the basis for much of the testimony dealing with ambient-air-quality monitoring, control programs, and the role of the Environmental Protection Agency in conducting long-term research. The 15 witnesses represented private industry, environmental groups, university research groups, and state and federal agencies. An appendix with additional questions and answers for the record follows their testimony. (DCK)
