Witnesses from research laboratories and cancer research groups, universities, and environmental agencies examined the underlying scientific assumptions of policies to protect the public from carcinogens at the first of a series of hearings. Special emphasis was given to controlling dioxin, formaldehyde, and carcinogenic pollutants at hazardous waste sites. Material submitted by the National Cancer Advisory Board and the Environmental Protection Agency follows the testimony of the 12 witnesses. (DCK)
