Effects of the Gulf Stream on the outer southeastern US continental shelf were determined. The relationships of phytoplankton productivity and related processes to the oceanography of the inner shelf were investigated. Upwelling studies on the northeastern Florida shelf are described, and feeding and excretory rates of juvenile and adult zooplankton characteristic of advanced and matured upwellings on the southeastern continental shelf are reported. 6 figures.
