Research progress from June 1979 to June 1981 is summarized. Investigations included phytoplankton dynamics in relation to periodic upwelling associated with disturbances of the Gulf Stream cyclonic front, a determination of abundance and distribution of nutrients, phyto- and zooplankton in upwelled water, and a determination of the frequency and size of upwelled water masses.
