Direct determination of phosphorus in gasoline by flameless atomic absorption spectrometry

A new method for determining phosphorus in gasoline using flameless atomic absorption is presented. Lanthanum nitrate solution is inserted in a graphite furnace prior to direct addition of gasoline. The organic matrix is charred prior to atomization of the phosphorus. This procedure is accurate in determining as little as 20 nanogram phosphorus/90.
