PbTe-Ga/sub 2/Te/sub 3/ system

The phase diagram of the PbTe-Ga/sub 2/Te/sub 3/ system was investigated by physicochemical analysis methods, viz., differential-thermal analysis, x-ray-phase analysis, microstructural analysis, and x-ray microanalysis. A ternary compound of the composition PbGa/sub 6/Te/sub 10/ was found to exist. The composition of the peritectic point is 65 mole %Ga/sub 2/Te/sub 3/. The compound PbGe/sub 6/Te/sub 10/ forms with lead telluride of the eutectic composition (43 +/- 2) mole % Ga/sub 2/Te/sub 3/, the melting point of which is (678 +/- 3)/sup 0/C. The eutectic composition is determined by constructing the Tamman triangle.
