The interest in the study of the triple system Ni-Sn-Te is associated with the determination of the solubility of nickel in the semiconducting compound SnTe and the establishment of the nature of the interaction of the tin and nickel tellurides. In this work the interaction is studied in the section SnTe-Ni/sub 3/Te/sub 2/. The samples were studied by the methods of differential-thermal analysis (DTA), x-ray phase analysis (XPA), and microstructural analysis (MSA) and by measuring the microhardness, and the phase diagram of the system Sn-Te-Ni/sub 3/Te/sub 2/ was constructed. In the phase diagram, the ternary compounds -Ni/sub 6/SnTe/sub 5/ and Ni/sub 3/Sn/sub 3/Te/sub 5/ peritectic reactions.
