A final rule by the US Materials Transportation Bureau effective on 9/8/80 reduces the time and cost of hydrostatic testing by requiring only two 4 hour tests instead of the 24 hour test required by the Hazardous Liquid Pipeline Safety Act of 1979. Response to the notice proposing this rule included comments by nine oil and gas companies, API, the Chemical Manufacturers Association, and the Interstate Natural Gas Association of America, all of which agreed with the proposal.
