Prospects for future growth of Europe's gas supply

Journal Article · · Pipe Line Ind.; (United States)
OSTI ID:6137730

Proven reserves and a reasonable discovery rate for additional reserves indicate a natural gas production rate for Western Europe of 7.5 trillion CF/yr in 1990 and 5.5-6.2 TCF in 2000. This decline in natural gas production will be offset somewhat by the manufacture of 560-750 billion CF/yr of coal gas. By 2000, imports will amount to 5.6 TCF, for a total gas supply of about 13 TCF. The main assumptions for these forecasts are that the gas price in the marketplace will allow a further penetration in several market sectors and that gas will remain competitive with alternative fuels.
