Although sizing an offshore, multiphase pipeline requires basically the same procedures as for onshore lines, complicating factors for offshore pipes include riser inclination angles, temperature differentials, and generally higher heat transfer rates. For a typical offshore pipeline system, SSI uses the Beggs and Brill pressure drop and holdup correlations to illustrate the design procedure, taking into account thermal resistances of forced-air convection on bare pipe, forced-water convection on bare pipe, and forced-water convection on concrete-coated pipe. The method also incorporates the A.G.A. A-factor technique.
