Ethanol production via fungal decomposition and fermentation of biomass: A subcontract report

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:6133593

This report summarizes research efforts and results on ethanol production via Fusarium decomposition and fermentation during 1980 to the present. Reports, meeting papers, and oral presentations derived from this work are included. More than 3500 Fusarium isolated were obtained from natural substrata, and a few mutant strains were developed through uv irradiation of selected wild strains. All were tested for their potential to hydrolyze cellulose using the cellulose-agar text-tube technique. The ability of Fusaria to produce ethanol was tested under a variety of conditions. The ability of Fusaria to ferment xylose was also tested.
