US Nuclear Waste Technical Review Board report to the US Congress and the Secretary of Energy. 1997 findings and recommendations
The Nuclear Waste Technical Review Board (Board) submits this report, 1997 Findings and Recommendations, in accordance with the requirements of the Nuclear Waste Policy Amendments Act of 1987, Public Law 100-203. Congress created the Board to evaluate the technical and scientific validity of the Department of Energy`s (DOE) program for managing the permanent disposal of the nation`s spent nuclear fuel and high-level radioactive waste. Specifically, the Board is charged with evaluating the DOE`s activities for characterizing a proposed repository site at Yucca Mountain in Nevada, as well as the DOE`s activities relating to the design of the repository and to the packaging and transport of spent fuel and high-level waste. In its report, the Board summarizes the major findings, conclusions, and recommendations resulting from Board evaluations during calendar year 1997.
