The Nuclear Waste Technical Review Board herewith submits its first report as required by the Nuclear Waste Policy Amendments Act of 1987, Public Law 100-203. The Congress created the Board to provide scientific and technical advice on the Nation`s spent nuclear fuel and high-level waste disposal program. The Board`s examination of the Department of Energy`s (DOE) program is to include a review of the DOE`s characterization of Yucca Mountain as a potential repository for long-term disposal of nuclear waste. The board also will oversee activities relating to the packaging and transportation of nuclear waste.
