Cesium gadolinium molybdate CsGd(MoO/sub 4/)/sub 2/ melts incongruently. Therefore, to grow its single crystals, we have used the method of crystallization from a solution melt. We tested cesium molybdates of three compositions as the solvent: Cs/sub 2/Mo/sub 2/O/sub 4/, Cs/sub 2/Mo/sub 2/O/sub 7/, Cs/sub 2/Mo/sub 3/O/sub 10/. We studied the solubility in all three solvents. They are all suitable for growing single crystals of cesium gadolinium molybdate. The best solvent is cesium trimolybdate. We grew both pure single crystals of CsGd(NoO/sub 4/)/sub 2/ and crystals activated by Nd/sup 3 +/ ions from solution in a cesium trimolybdate melt on a seed crystal.
