Using negative ion photoelectron spectroscopy, the electron affinities (EA) of CCO/sup -/ and HCCO/sup -/ were determined as 1.8 +/- 0.027 eV and 2.35 +/- 0.20 eV, respectively. In separate experiments with a flowing afterglow device, the gas-phase acidity of ketene was determined to be 365 +/- 2 kcal/mole. From these data, the ketene bond dissociation energy and heats of formation were determined.
