Boiler feedwater equipment and operation
Quality water indispensible in the lives of human beings is also a vital element for the industrial complex. This paper addresses the following key issues for low to medium pressure boilers in the 20,000number/hr to 300,000number/hr capacity range: Why is quality boiler feedwater required.; what quality of boiler feedwater is required.; identify the typical boiler feedwater cycle and types of equipment used; and equipment operation guidelines. Depending on the quantity of the impurities, the design of the boiler, the intended use of the evaporated steam, and the desired boiler efficiency, any one of several water treating systems may be required. All boilers need some sort of external water treatment of the makeup water to prevent or keep to the lowest reasonable levels any or all of the following: Corrosion in the boiler and boiler system; caustic embrittlement of the boiler; scaling and accumulation of deposits in the boiler; and carry-over of solids or gases with the steam.
