TLP theory fulfilling expectations

The Hutton field tension leg platform (TLP) has succeeded in pushing back the frontiers of deepwater development, and has satisfied engineers that altered budgets and time schedules have resulted in a production suitable for the production life of the field. Many technical innovations were proven during the Hutton TLP experience. One of the most impressive techniques was the onshore mating of the 27,000 ton bull to the 20,000 ton deck from a deballasted barge. The design, construction, and operation of the Hutton TLP are discussed.
