Recently, we developed an axial beam excitation scheme for capillary electrophoresis. We report the use of this excitation geometry to simultaneously monitor 10 capillary tubes undergoing electrophoresis. This represents a truly parallel multiplexing scheme for monitoring large arrays of capillaries. The system has no moving parts. Data rates are compatible with state-of-the-art run times in CGE and are fast enough even if there is another order of magnitude increase in DNA sequencing rates per lane in the future. 24 refs., 3 figs.
