New resistive state of wide superconducting films
The current--voltage characteristics and the distribution of the pair and quasiparticle potentials along the current in wide superconducting films in a dynamic mixed state and under nearly isothermal conditions were investigated experimentally. It is shown that as in the case of a narrow superconducting channel, wide films under certain critical conditions, due to the nonlinear properties of moving vortices, are unstable to the formation of phase-slip lines whose structure is analogous to the phase-slip centers in narrow channels. It is noted that the theory of phase-slip centers must be generalized to the case of films with arbitrary thickness in a magnetic field taking into account the specific features of the motion of vortices in the region of unbalance of the branches of the quasiparticle spectrum.
