Addition of vanadium to the divacant {gamma}-(HSiW{sub 10}O{sub 36}){sup 7{minus}} anion gives quantitatively the {gamma}-decatungsto-1,2-divanadosilicate (SiV{sub 2}W{sub 10}O{sub 40}){sup 6{minus}} parent complex. This complex is stable in nonaqueous solution but isomerizes in water. The isomerization was followed by polarography, and depending on the experimental conditions, three geometrical isomers of (SiV{sub 2}W{sub 10}O{sub 40}){sup 6{minus}} were prepared (as pure compounds for two of them). These isomers are characterized by their IR spectra and their {sup 183}W, {sup 51}V, and {sup 29}Si NMR spectra. All have the {beta}-structure with the two vanadium atoms in positions (8,12), (3,12), and (3,8), respectively.
