THE DECAY OF W$sup 183$m (in German)

W/sup 1//sup 3//sup 8//sup m/ was produced by the reaction W/sup 1//sup 8//sup 2/(n, gamma )W/sup 1//sup 8//sup 3//sup m/. The half life was remeasured yielding a value of (5.1 plus or minus 0.2) sec. With the aid of scintillation spectrometers four gamma lines could be detected: two lines at about 100 kev, one at (161 plus or minus 3) kev, and one at (211 plus or minus 4) kev. A new technique was used to obtain the energy of the isomeric state. The total transition energy of this state was measured by summing up all possible cascade transitions of gamma rays and conversion electrons with a source between two halves of a CsI crystal. The results are compared with the level scheme of W/sup 1//sup 8//sup 3/ as measured by Murray et al. in the beta decay of Ta/sup 1// sup 8//sup 3/. A decay scheme of W/sup 1//sup 8//sup 3//sup m/ is presented with the isomeric state at (310 plus or minus 4) kev and three known lower energy levels of W/sup 1//sup 8//sup 3/ at 207, 99, and 46 kev. The main branch of the isomeric decay leads to the 207 kev level most probably by an M2 transition. (auth)
