DECAY OF THE 1.26-MIN ISOMERIC LEVEL IN Dy$sup 16$$sup 5$
The decay of the isomeric level at 108.2 kev in Dy/sup 165/ was investigated with scintillation spectrometers, including the use of the coincidence technique. The half life of the isomeric level was found to be 1.257 plus or minus 0.006 min. The relative intensities of the transitions to the ground state of Dy/sup 165/ and to the 362- and 541-kev levels in Ho/sup 165/ were deduced to be 97.5 plus or minus 0.4, 0.4 plus or minus 0.1, and 2.1 plus or minus 0.3 per cent, respectively, in good agreement with the results of previons measurements. For the 108.2-kev transition, the K conversion coefficient was determined as 3.4 plus or minus 0.2 and K/(L + M +...) as 0.13 plus or minus 0.01. The half life of the 514-kev state in Ho/sup 165/ was found to be less than 10/sup -9/ sec. Two weak gamma rays having the energies 655 plus or minus 10 and 755 plus or minus l5 kev were observed to decay in accordance with the 1.26-min half life. Levels at 1017 plus or minus 10 and 1117 plus or minus 15 kev are tentatively suggested to be populated in the decay of the 108.2-kev isomeric level. The spin and parity assignments of the assumed states are discussed. An unresolved gamma ray distribution with its end- point at about 1100 kev, decaying with a 32.3 plus or minus 0.9 sec half life, was observed. This distribution is tentatively suggested to be associated with the de-excitation of an isomeric level with high spin in Dy/sup 165/ decaying to the ground state rotational band. (auth)
