Absolute measurement of the cross section for 23-keV neutron activation of thorium

Absolute measurement of the thorium radiative capture cross section has been made using antimony-beryllium photoneutrons and an activation method. The average of two determinations is 606 mb near 23-keV neutron energy with a 3.2% estimated error from all sources. This value is about10% higher than those reported from recent measurements employing iron-filtered neutron beams.
