ABSOLUTE NEUTRON ABSORPTION CROSS SECTIONS FOR Sb-Be PHOTONEUTRONS

Journal Article · · Nuclear Phys.

Absolute absorption cross sections of Cu, Zn, Ag, Cd, In, Sb, I, Au, Hg, and Pb were measured for Sb-Be photoneutrons the average energy of which is given as 24.0 plus or minus 2.2 kev. A specially designed antimony-beryllium neutron source was used in spherical shell transmission measurements. A detailed account of the method, including discus sion of the experimental measurements and analysis of data, is given. Absorption cross sections obtained are as follows: Cu, 42 plus or minus 15 mb; Zn, 64 plus or minus 20 mb; Ag, 1185 plus or minus 80 Mb; Cd, 515 plus or minus 70 mb; In, 823 plus or minus 60 mb; Sb, 585 plus or minus 45 Mb; I, 885 plus or minus 90 mb; Au, 585 plus or minus 60 mb; Hg, 380 plus or minus 100 mb; and Pb, 3 plus or minus 9 mb.
