The spectra of protons produced in the Al(..cap alpha..,p) and Co(..cap alpha..,p) reactions at different angles have been measured at E/sub ..cap alpha../ = 18 MeV. The angular distributions have been extracted. In the Co (..cap alpha..,p) reaction the pre-equilibrium emission is observed. The result is consistent with the prediction of the exciton model. The initial exciton state is determined as n/sub 0/ = 4. The fraction of the pre-equilibrium emission is about 15%. In the Al(..cap alpha..,p) reaction the pre-equilibrium emission is weak and the evaporation contribution is dominant.
