Temperature dependence of the gas-phase self-reaction of HO/sub 2/ in the presence of H/sub 2/O

The dependence of the rate constant for the overall reaction HO/sub 2/ + HO/sub 2/ ..-->.. products on temperature (298 to 373/sup 0/K) and on the concentration of H/sub 2/O is reported. Analysis of the results in terms of a mechanism used earlier, where NH/sub 3/ was used instead of H/sub 2/O, yields information on ..delta..H/sup 0//sub 298/ and ..delta..G/sup 0//sub 298/ for the formation of the HO/sub 2/-H/sub 2/O complex, but the error indexes are considerably larger than in the case of the HO/sub 2/-NH/sub 3/ complex.
