Exploration and production in Alaska: a review and forecast

Journal Article · · World Oil; (United States)

Production from Prudhoe Bay will begin to decline appreciably after about 1990. Yet, if successful discoveries were made today, they would not impact Alaska's production decline unit 1995, and by then additional reserves of about 2.5 billion bbl would be needed to take up the shortfall. In other words, today's Alaska exploration is crucial if industry has any hope of sustaining the crude production levels from Alaska that the U.S. is accustomed to. Here's a review of the 1984-1985 Alaska exploration effort and current production levels, plus a forecast of expected and potential production levels through 2005.
